“Isn’t that what a wedding is all about? The gathering of family. The sharing of stories. The linking of arms. For better or for worse.”

I’ve been married for more than forty years, yet this spring, I feel like a bride again! I’ve swooned over wedding gown photos, selected color schemes, envisioned floral arrangements, planned a menu for the guests, held signature cocktail taste-testings, even ooh-ed and ahh-ed over formal wear and hand-crafted bow ties for the groom and his men.

All of this wedding planning is not for me though.  It’s for the characters in my new novel, A LOWCOUNTRY WEDDING (Gallery Books), in stores May 3rd, the fourth installment of my nationally bestselling Lowcountry Summer series. I had no idea the storyline would lead my characters to the altar. But it’s wedding time in the beautiful low-lying coastal area of Charleston, South Carolina known as the Lowcountry!

Charleston is a city rich with history, traditions and culture—it’s no wonder that it is listed as a top wedding destination. A dream wedding in Charleston’s Lowcountry can be at a plantation nestled in a lush landscape of historic mansions, manicured gardens, winding creeks and  ancient oaks dripping moss.  Or it can be set on a gorgeous beach against a surreal sunset and wide ocean views. All this, plus hospitable people who work and thrive here give depth and meaning to weddings in Charleston that I believe cannot be replicated anywhere in the world.

I tried to capture that spirit in my novel while delving into the heart of marriage and commitment through the eyes of  different generations. What does it mean to be a family, and how strong are the bonds when promises are broken and secrets revealed? Click here for a sneak peak at A LOWCOUNTRY WEDDING

As with any real wedding, there are a lot of events surrounding this literary wedding! The biggest one is the #WinALowcountryWedding contest happening right now on my website here and on my facebook page here. Thanks to the generosity of Charleston’s very best wedding service providers, we’re going to make one couple’s dream come true with a classic, southern plantation wedding and reception for up to fifty guests at the historic Legare Waring House. Entering the contest is easy.

  1. Visit www.maryalicemonroe.com/weddingcontest
  2. Type in your basic contact info and upload a candid video on YouTube explaining why you want a wedding in Charleston.
  3. Paste your video link onto the entry form. Done!

Here’s something anyone can participate in–the book pre-order campaign for A LOWCOUNTRY WEDDING.

Every Tuesday, I reveal a new ‘Charleston’ prize and weekly winner as we count down to book release day. The grand prize is a romantic week-long stay for two adults at a private villa at the upscale Firefly Sunset Resort located in Hope Town on Elbow Cay in the Abacos, Bahamas. I daydream about this place!

For a chance to win… simply pre-order a copy of A LOWCOUNTRY WEDDING, then post your proof of purchase in the comments section of the contest post on my Facebook page. Your pre-order qualifies you to win any of the prizes, including the grand prize. Sharing the contest post with your friends earns bonus entries!

The summer book tour schedule and the official book launch party invitation will be released next week. Save the date for April 28th, 6 p.m. at Wild Dunes Resort on Isle of Palms, SC.

These fun events are my special way of showing my love and appreciation of YOU, for supporting my work, sharing in the excitement of book releases and attending events where ever I go.

Much love,

Mary Alice

Thank you, Stephanie. Comments like yours are so encouraging and uplifting. Kentucky and Destin, FL are not on this summer’s tour schedule, but let’s plan something wonderful in the near future. Thank you for your incredible support!

Are you going to be in Georgia in the near future? I have really enjoyed the series.

Mary Alice Monroe

Hi Deb,
Yes, I’ll be back in Georgia on May 26th. Bookmiser is hosting a luncheon in Roswell that morning. And then I’ll be in Woodstock at the Foxtale Book Shoppe that evening. If either event is close to you come join us for the fun conversation and celebration!

I have read all your books. I just finished the second star to the right. At the end there was the first chapter of One Summers Night. I can’t seem to find this book. Has it been printed. Looks like it was 2013. Is it no longer available?

Mary Alice Monroe

Hi Karen,
One Summer’s Night was originally published in 2000 by Avon Books as a paperback under the name Mary Alice Kruesi. My intention has been to republish but life got busy and I haven’t yet done so. I will be sure to notify readers on my website when I do republish it. Perhaps you’ll find a copy of the original at your local library? Thank you so much for writing!
