MY SPRING 2024 BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS
Spring is here and we are ready to read a new set of books! A number of great books are blooming so let’s get started!
THIS WILL MAKE IT TASTE GOOD by Vivian Howard
I’ll begin with the cookbook that headlines the Wild Dunes Spring Luncheon. We are so fortunate to have the wildly successful cookbook author, TV host, and restauranteur join us on April 18th. Wild Dunes will cook recipes from her cookbooks THIS WILL MAKE IT TASTE GOOD and DEEP RUN ROOTS. Vivian is known for Southern cooking with flair. I am having fun reading her stories in Deep Run Roots and the cooking secrets she shares in This Will Make It Taste Good will change your food!

BLANK by Zibby Owens
Another inimitable author has her first novel out this spring Zibby Owens. Zibby is New York’s biggest book influencer, a bookstore owner, publisher, and more. BLANK is her first novel. In this novel, a wife, mother, and frustrated writer faces an impossible deadline for turning her life around in a debut novel about family, friendship, success, and exhilarating self-(re)discovery.
THE HOUSE OF EVE by Sadeqa Johnson
New in paperback this spring, Sadeqa’s book tells the powerful story of two black women in the 1950s from different economic and geographic parts of the country. They have one thing in common: a burning desire to better themselves and break from the constraints of economics and gender. Fertility issues and teen pregnancy twist the plot to a riveting and emotional conclusion. I loved the book, and it opened my eyes to a different world of experiences. I had the pleasure of interviewing Sadeqa in Charleston in February. She is as delightful as her writing.
THE SUMMER WE STARTED OVER by Nancy Thayer
A summer book by Nancy is a must buy for me. Nancy never disappoints. Her Nantucket setting is always a draw and as a longtime resident, Nancy writes with authority and love of her home. In this heartwarming novel, two sisters reconnect and pursue their dreams on the beautiful island of Nantucket, overcoming life’s challenges and finding new love. We enjoyed having Nancy at Wild Dunes!
LADY TAN’S CIRCLE OF WOMEN by Lisa See
This book is perfect for fans of Lisa See’s classics Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane. Lisa See is “one of those special writers capable of delivering both poetry and plot” (The New York Times Book Review). Lady Tan’s Circle of Women is meticulously researched, and immersive historical novel inspired by the true story of a woman physician in 15th-century China. I learned so much and enjoyed every page.
THE WOMEN by Kristin Hannah
I’ve not read this book yet, but like everyone else, I will! Kristin is another must buy author for me. I’ve known her since we were both cutting our teeth in the business and from the start we knew Kristin was an author to watch. She moved the needle with her historical The Nightingale and The Four Winds. Now comes Kristin Hannah’s next historical set against the Viet Nam War. The Women―at once an intimate portrait of coming of age in a dangerous time and an epic tale of a nation divided.
I hope you’ll add one of these titles to your Spring reading stack. And do let me know of a book you highly recommend! What are you reading this season?
