When people are decorating their front porches with pumpkins, that means I’m deep into my annual tradition … story-writing mode. For weeks, I’ve been holed up in my office working on a new novel. Today I’m excited to share my new book announcement with you, along with a few important notes to share.

Autumn is a season of gratitude, and I want to say thank you. Readers from near and far showed up in big ways this year for my new release, THE SUMMER GUESTS. That support launched the novel onto the New York Times Best Sellers list and several other national bestselling lists too. That kind of support allows me the honor of continuing to write stories that will resonate with you and will ultimately be a force for good in this world.

Book Release Day at my local Barnes and Noble (Mt. Pleasant, SC)

I’ve also been busy working on a literary project dear to my heart. The annual Wild Dunes Author Series. I started this special event more than a decade ago for two reasons–as a way to connect notable writers with avid readers in an intimate setting, and to help support vital literacy programs.

Mark your calendar for “Wild Dunes Presents: A Conversation with Mary Alice Monroe” featuring distinguished authors Elizabeth Berg, Signe Pike, and Kate Quinn. Join us January 19th at the world-class resort located in my island town, the Isle of Palms, South Carolina.

Wild Dunes Author Series: January 19, 2020

The theme of the conversation will be women of power and influence throughout the ages because their novels poignantly capture strong characters in their historical fiction books, which cover vastly different time periods. I’ll also ask them about their writing lives and get them to candidly share personal stories. And, I always try to take a few questions from the audience, too!

Everyone has so much fun at this annual event. Your participation will directly support Reading Partners, our charitable beneficiary. With your ticket you’ll receive refreshments, hors d’oeuvres, and a $5 book coupon. You’ll also get access to a silent auction that 100% supports the charity. And there will be a book signing too.

For the first time ever, Wild Dunes Resort is offering a VIP Weekend Package with this event. The deal includes a 2-night stay, 2 tickets to the author series with reserved seating, plus 2 tickets to additional exclusive events to enjoy during your weekend trip.

2020 Wild Dunes Author Series and VIP Weekend Package

I think this kind of event would be the perfect gift of experience for the book-lover in your life this year. It’s also a great excuse to take a long weekend to explore Charleston, SC with your spouse, your mama, your sisters, or your dear friends.

Condé Nast Traveler voted Wild Dunes Resort as one of the 10 best resorts in the south. And Forbes.com named the Wild Dunes Author Series as one of the top 10 reasons to visit Charleston in the winter. The event is a sell-out, and it’s so much fun!

I’m thrilled to share this with you. The title of my new novel is ON OCEAN BOULEVARD and it will be released May 19, 2020. Book cover and story details coming soon. Meanwhile, my team is already working on the summer book tour schedule. But, we also welcome reader suggestions. Is there a place near you that I should include during book tour? Send us details at: [email protected] and put “book tour suggestion” in the subject line.

ON OCEAN BOULEVARD is a return to the beach I love most dearly, the Isle of Palms and is the latest installment of The Beach House Series. If you haven’t read the series yet, that’s okay because I always write a book in any series to be a stand-alone. You’ll enjoy the novel nonetheless.

ON OCEAN BOULEVARD will be released May 19th.

The incredible saga of the Rutledge family at Primrose Cottage continues because of you, my wonderful readers! So many of you told me during book tour that you’re not ready to let the series go. And quite frankly, neither am I.

Please add ON OCEAN BOULEVARD to your Goodreads Bookshelf as a book you “Want to Read.” You’ll be among the first to see the new cover and read the details.

If you’ve read the series, which book in the series is your favorite? Which character(s) do you like the most? Share your thoughts in the comment box.

The Beach House. Cara and Lovie – the eternal bond between Mothers and Daughters. Growing up on Topsail Island I love loggerhead turtles! I am a member of the Lake Lure book club.

  7. Kim fedele on October 15, 2019 at 10:30 pm

  8. Diana on October 15, 2019 at 11:59 pm

Such exciting news…another book extending the Rutledge lineage! This series not only reinforced my love of the South Carolina Lowcountry, but it was instrumental in our decision to move there! And if Lovie could be a “turtle lady” in her advanced years, surely, I could be too! So…at age 80, I became a proud member of the Fripp Island Loggerhead Patrol! Mary Alice Monroe, thank you for your dedication to the effort of preserving this noble species and making others aware of the importance of doing so.
I am so sorry we will be off island when you will appear at the Pat Conroy Literary Festival next month. Please consider revisiting the Beaufort area during your next book tour…and maybe patrolling our pristine beach with an 83-year-old turtle patroller as we look for those unique tracks identifying a mama turtle’s miraculous and determined journey from the sea to continue her lineage.

Long time reader and got started/hooked with The Beach House series!
I enjoyed them all. However, The Beach House for Rent stands out as my favorite! I enjoyed the plot. It is very relatable for me personally. Im an artist so I was drawn to that. I love the relationship that developed and the birds was such a cute addition! I enjoy animals and nature, rescue and thats another aspect of your books that I am drawn to.

    • Debbie Talbot on February 21, 2020 at 8:43 pm

Love all of your books! You are an amazing writer, being able to draw the reader into the book and so much that they can envision the setting. You have definitely made me put visiting South Carolina on my bucket list. Would love to see the Loggerhead turtles and their nests!

      • Mary Alice Monroe on February 23, 2020 at 11:10 am

I’m so glad my books inspire you. And, I definitely encourage you to come visit the Lowcountry. You’ll love it. And be sure to visit the Sea Turtle Care Center at the SC Aquarium.

    • Myra Penders on February 25, 2020 at 1:18 pm

Stumbled upon this series last month and can’t put them down! Just starting Beach House for Rent. This came at a perfect time as we are taking our 1st trip to Charleston in March and staying at The Wild Dunes. Looking forward to exploring the area, seeing the Aquarium, and learning more about the Loggerheads. My only wish is that the nesting season would have started. Looking forward to finishing the series.

      • Mary Alice Monroe on March 4, 2020 at 1:13 pm

I’m so delighted you’ve found the Beach House Series! You’re going to have the best time on the island.
Enjoy nice walks on the beach. You can rent bikes too. If you eat at Coastal Provisions on the Wild Dunes property, try the she crab soup.
And I hope you’ll pop into my cousin’s restaurant– Long Island Cafe and the IOP Raw Bar. Amazing food! But, we’re lucky on the Isle of Palms to have so many great places to eat. Have so much fun exploring! And I’m glad you’re going to the SC Aquarium too.

Four Seasons was the first book I read and couldn’t put it down. It seemed like I was reading my own story! Since then, I have bought and read nearly every one of your books I can find. Loved every one of them. Sweetgrass lit a fire in me to see the low country and explore what I had read. My husband and I made a trip there in 2014 in our RV, and we took in as much as we could in the three months we spent experiencing the country. I got to see the basket stands along the way and came home with a sweetgrass basket made by a wonderful lady selling at an outdoor market. Loved her! I can’t wait for the next novel in May 2020. You’re THE BEST author of any I’ve read and your biggest fan !!! LOL. Thankyou so much for all your hard work ! It’s always an emotionally wonderful ride!

    • Mary Alice Monroe on April 7, 2020 at 1:29 pm

Your note makes my day, Carole! Thank you so much.

      • Ashley on September 23, 2020 at 11:44 pm

I don’t even know where to begin!! I’ve come a long way from where I stood with reading. It is my favorite pass time now!
I started a book club at the beginning of 2019 mainly to meet new people. I didn’t know much about the best selling authors, or even what books were up and coming. A book club member picked The Summer Guests one month, and I’ve been hooked to her novels ever since!! In my opinion there’s no other best selling author other than Mary Alice Monroe! I’m reading through all her books! Being from the Lowcountry, and living within arms reach to the places she talks about in her books makes it feel more at home. I love how easy her books flow, and how you can relate to her characters. I feel like they are family when I read her books!! The love she puts into her characters and writing definitely overflows. I can honestly say that I’ve never been attached to a book so much that it stirs enough emotion to make me cry- not until I read her Lowcountry series. I’m dying to know if there is going to be a 6th book in the series?!
(PS… the recipes in the back in A Lowcountry Wedding is an amazing touch!!)

        • Mary Alice Monroe on October 5, 2020 at 4:16 pm

Oh Ashley! Your note fills my heart. Thank you for your kind words. I’m so glad you love my novels (and my recipes). As for another book in the Lowcountry Summer Series… we’ll see. 🙂
