Mary Alice Monroe has been selected as the 2008 recipient of the South Carolina Center for the Book Award for Writing. (formerly known as the Palmetto Book Award)
The South Carolina Center for the Book is the South Carolina affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book and is a cooperative project of the of South Carolina State Library, the University of South Carolina School of Library and Information Science, and The Humanities Council.
Monroe's books will be featured by the South Carolina booth at the National Book Festival 2008.

TURTLE SUMMER; A Journal for my Daughter is the winner of the ASPCA® Henry Bergh Children's Book Award.
The award will be presented to Mary Alice Monroe at an award ceremony and cocktail reception during the 2008 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Anaheim, C.A. The ceremony is on Monday, June 30, 2008
The ASPCA has also selected TURTLE SUMMER as a Henry's Book Club selection for August 2008.
TURTLE SUMMER is a Children's Book Council, Children's Choices list selection for 2008.
